One week in Morocco itinerary that links between Fez and Marrakech is available all year round. However, we suggest that you avoid a few months to get the most out of it.

January and February are not suitable for booking this tour because it runs during these two months. The journey, therefore, becomes stressful, and more likely, you will spend your time at the hotel.

However, if you just need a break in Marrakech or Fez, it is possible to arrange a quick visit after the weather consultation.

In addition, June, July and August are also the worst months to travel to the desert. You will not resist heat as it becomes extremely hot. It is, therefore, better to avoid organized tours during these periods.

Berber villages at the foothills of High Atlas mountains

One week in Morocco wouldn’t be perfect if you didn’t visit Ait Benhaddou.

It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ksar of Aït Ben Haddou is located in the province of Ouarzazate. This traditional caravan crossing point sits south of Telouet, in the Ounila valley. And it’s also a great example of Moroccan architecture.

The village of Aït Ben Haddou consists of a number of earthen buildings, nestled on the side of a hill. At the top, there is what is called an Agadir, which is a kind of collective granary. Surrounded by walls, the ksar is an emblematic cultural site of Morocco.

The ksar of Aït Ben Haddou is, therefore, a traditional pre-Saharan habitat. The defensive walls of the village protect the houses, and complete the corner towers of the city. Several dwellings are reminiscent of constructions similar to castles.

Small villages come together and form a heap of dwellings at the foot of the hills. In the past, the inhabitants of these small villages were nomads. The latter then opted for a sedentary lifestyle and settled in these traditional dwellings. Since 1987, the ksar of Aït Ben Haddou has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Many emblematic films and series have been filmed there since 1962. This site is also known for having housed bald ibis. Visiting Aït Ben Haddou is, therefore, a cultural and really interesting excursion that will punctuate your stay in Morocco!

Ouarzazate is located at the foot of the Atlas, in the valley where the Drâa and Dadès rivers join, at the crossroads of Saharan paths. It is the provincial capital of the Sous-Masa-Drâa region as well as a tourist, commercial, and military center.

All the traditional architecture of these pre-Saharan valleys is based on the principle of fortification.
The Kasbah is a multi-story building with surveillance towers at each corner and a central patio.
The Alcazar (ksar or Ighrem) is a small village surrounded by walls with surveillance towers at various points and one or more monumental entrances. Inside, in addition to the houses, there is always a mosque, a space for parties and, sometimes, a pension (fonduk).

Though Ourazazate is interesting, Atlas cinema studio adds extra sparkle to this humble city.

The studio attracted many international filmmakers over the years. The top historical movies and series have been shot here. The customs are left behind so that many tourists find it amazing to take pictures around.

Many people don’t know that the fictional cities of Astrapor and Yunkai are real cities of Morocco, namely Ait Benhaddou and Essaouira.

Morocco itinerary one week from Marrakech offers the same privileges as the tour that starts in Fez. Therefore, instead of starting from Fez, you start from Marrakech following the same itinerary.

The itinerary that starts in Fes doesn’t include the 2 other imperial cities of Morocco, namely Rabat and Meknes. Therefore, the itinerary of Casablanca is made to facilitate the task.

Nonetheless, the tour from Fez has its advantages, one of which is to squize the distance to the desert if you have a short time.
